Normandy Village School wins our Community Corner Logo Design Competition

We are delighted to announce that Normandy Village School has been named the winner of our Community Corner Logo Design Competition, with Year 3 pupil Rylin Palmer, aged 8, creating the winning design.

Earlier this year, we invited local schools and young creatives from across Camberley and the surrounding area to help shape the future of our brand-new Community Corner by designing its official logo. The Community Corner has been created to celebrate and support local charities, community groups and initiatives, providing them with a dedicated platform within The Square.

We were thrilled to receive a fantastic range of entries from talented young artists across the local area, making the judging process incredibly difficult. After careful consideration, Rylin’s colourful and creative design was selected as the overall winner.

On Tuesday 23rd June, our Centre Manager, Gavin Vidler, and Marketing Assistant, Kim Hillier-Davies, visited Normandy Village School to present a Β£1,000 cheque for the school’s art department, along with a special prize bundle for Rylin during a school assembly. We were warmly welcomed by Mr Franks, Head Teacher, and Mrs Marwick, Art Lead, who have both been hugely supportive of the competition.

Rylin’s winning logo will now become the official identity of our Community Corner and will feature on signage, social media, marketing materials and promotional activity associated with the initiative.

This competition forms part of our ongoing commitment to supporting local schools, encouraging creativity and strengthening connections within our community.

Gavin Vidler, Centre Manager at The Square Camberley, said:

“We were incredibly impressed by the standard of entries we received from schools across Camberley. It was clear that a huge amount of creativity, imagination and effort had gone into every design submitted. Rylin’s logo stood out for its colourful and welcoming design and perfectly captured the community spirit that our Community Corner represents. We are delighted to be supporting Normandy Village School’s art department with this donation and look forward to showcasing Rylin’s design as the face of the Community Corner.”

Mrs L Marwick, Teacher and Art Lead at Normandy Village School, said:

“A heartfelt thank you again to The Square Camberley team. As Art Leader, it has been incredibly rewarding to see how this project has engaged children across all year groups. It provided a meaningful opportunity for pupils to apply their artistic skills in a real-world context, understanding that their work could represent something significant beyond the classroom.

This initiative forms part of our wider work towards achieving the Artsmark accreditation, a nationally recognised award that celebrates schools demonstrating a strong commitment to the arts. At Normandy Village School, we have been working hard to embed creativity across our curriculum and raise the profile of the arts through a wide range of exciting opportunities.

We are incredibly proud of our young artists and grateful to The Square Camberley’s Community Corner for providing such a valuable opportunity. Together, we are building meaningful connections and highlighting the important role that the arts play in enriching both education and community life.”

We would like to thank every school, teacher, parent and pupil who took part in the competition. The creativity and enthusiasm shown throughout the project was fantastic to see.

Congratulations once again to Rylin and everyone at Normandy Village School. We can’t wait to unveil our new Community Corner featuring Rylin’s winning design
